Having trouble with getting on the net as Germany & Belgium don't align with the UK 3 network and you have to buy local sim cards to use data. Sounds easy but it never is and 10 - 20 euros doesn't last very long at all. So doing a blog has to be limited to a random few photos from along the way.
We travelled through Luxembourg into Germany and first stop was Trier. Hundreds of years of roman history still survives there with truck loads of tourists lapping it up.
In Luxembourg one can view from the outside or pay to see the inner remains of the Casements. Started in 1644 by the Spanish as a fortification against any nasty buggers their are 23km of underground galleries high up in the cliffs.
Looking across to a section...
Would be hard Yakka getting up into their from the bottom.... Some one now has a very nice Vegy garden below..
Into the Mosel region....
Leonie & Nat outside what was a very tidy private residence....
Further along the village...
Bernkastel - Kues is a must see...
Skinny houses...
We had a night at a local wine bar ,with a band playing, and decided to partake in some local food.
The meat dish was like shredded Luncheon meat in a vinegar with onions and stuff..the cheese was like bland rubber and the large Pretzels were ok bu quite salty.. A bit surprising in and area with so much fine wine that the food was quite Tastless....
The whole area, every village is immaculately presented...
Grape vines abound all trained along wires...
along the road and more sights...
Castles down on the Rhine river....
Some have survived better than others....
Many are still being lived in and there is a lot of "Saving" or rebuilding going on..
Grapes are everywhere...
If you have ever played golf, I have roughly, then it's common knowledge that to get a low score it's all about the "Approach Shot" to the green that can lower the numbers...
The shot to this green....
Needs to be "Spot On"...
High up, it was the best place to build a castle, looking down on the....
River Rhine and Oberwesel.....
Unlike the Mosel river where bridges cross frequently, on the Rhine you can travel for 30 miles without a bridge so to see across the other side....
Catching the ferry is the plan.. The scooters are the recommended form of travel...
Leonie and me were near Spa so we took a punt and called at the raceway. It was Saturday morning and low and behold their was a 3 day Summer classic race meeting on.. Fields of up to 70 cars, classics of course, hard out racing.. OHHH the sound of Morgan V8's, Austin Healy big 6' BDA Escorts, Ford Galaxies, etc. pulling up the hill was....
the viewing of the track was the bet we've ever encountered...
Soaking up the sun... 33c....
We paid to park the motorhome, 25e, and that included entry to practically anywhere around the whole circuit including the pits and stands... We walked the perimeter of the circuit, 7.4km..
The only place that took a little longer to get to too "feel comfortable" in was the bar at the top of the world were on F1 day all the posh people, "2 bob millionaires' go.
But we got there...eventually...
Up here other people had wrist bands on and were drinking "champers"..
Come Monday we were the only motorhome left but there was still stuff going on at the track so we stayed until Tuesday.. We moved the van closer too the pits and we had free power & water...
Having watched the "Great Escape" at least 9 times I knew one day little things from that epic would stand me good...
Just going to check on our "Free" power 7 water hook up...
On to Brussels...
Built for the world fair held here... not bad for 1958...
A couple of city scenes...
Very "Art Deco" looking...
We returned to the motorhome about 8pm and at midnight we were sitting outside, still showing 34c...
should have gone into the city again next day but the temps were right hot again so we moved on....
